Caring for & Training your Puppy
As a dog owner now for over 12 years, not including the years growing up on our farm with dogs and many other animals, besides my children, our dogs our top priority. As parents, we are responsible for the well being of our children, we are also responsible for the well being of our animals. Like our children, they need to be loved and cared for. Providing a good education, well balanced diet and exercise so they grow up to be smart and kind, but also strong and healthy.
Like us, there is always room to learn, grow, etc. I, am not, a "certified" dog trainer, just a dog owner/breeder, continuing to educate myself through other trainers advice and experiences, doing my very best to raise and train our dogs to be happy, healthy and well behaved.
But with that being said, this part of my website, I will share my personal experience with training our dogs, but you will also see me mostly be sharing with you the well put together videos that Jessica Hatch of Gone to the Snow Dogs shares! She is VERY good at explaining/teaching things in detail, while sharing her experiences and love for the Siberian Husky. As I on the other hand, would likely not do so well, saying more than I need too, bunny hoping all over the place and in person, talk way too fast. (I'm a working progress...lol).

Now, whether you plan on having a Siberian Husky as a socially, well behaved house pet, showing them and/or are planning on training your Siberian Husky in dog powered sports, such dry land mushing or a sled dog (see one of my favorite videos from Gone to the Snow Dogs below), something they were bred to do by the way, it is important to start training right away. This is not saying you can not train an already fully grown husky, that is not true at all. I honestly believe any dog, from any background, can be trained. Not all will agree with me in saying that, but that's my big heart believing everyone, and every dog deserves a second chance.
Training dogs takes a lot of time, patience and persistence. But it also takes a lot of encouragement. If you are constantly scolding your puppy for the things your puppy does wrong but not rewarding your puppy for doing things right, you will see very slow progress. That, out of everything I have learned over the years, has been the biggest impact when training our dogs. I especially see that in our Nakita. Siberian Huskies are a very intelligent and an independent breed. Some say that makes them harder to train, but personally I think they train easier. If you have the knowledge and understanding of this breed, it will help you better understand them. So if you are thinking about bringing a Siberian Husky into your home, I strongly encourage researching this breed more to better prepare yourself.
Siberian Huskies are an amazing breed and I'm honored to be a part of our pack. When it comes to Siberian Huskies, you don't want to view yourself as their owner, but a pack member and leader. Someone they will trust to love and care for them for years to come. And with training, you can be blessed to have an amazing relationship with your husky!
